Apple announced the new Mac Studio on August 25 and says pre-orders are open in India now, with availability beginning September 22. According to Apple’s official announcement, the M5 Max configuration scales to a 40-core GPU and 128GB of unified memory, while M5 Ultra can reach an 80-core GPU and 512GB of unified memory.
That makes the buying decision less about which Mac Studio is faster and more about whether your workload can actually justify spending roughly ₹3.5 lakh more before any configuration upgrades. For many developers, photographers, musicians and video editors, M5 Max is likely to be the sensible choice. M5 Ultra is for professionals who already know why they need it. That includes VFX artists working with complex scenes, high-end video teams handling many simultaneous 8K streams, researchers running very large local models, data scientists with memory-heavy workloads, and organisations replacing or supplementing dedicated AI workstations.
The crucial question is whether the additional performance saves enough billable time, cloud-compute cost or infrastructure complexity to recover the higher purchase price. For businesses where the machine is a production asset used every day, the answer can be yes. For enthusiasts, it is much harder to justify.
Who Should Skip Both?
Most consumers should skip Mac Studio entirely. If your workload is browsing, office work, college assignments, light development, casual photo editing or ordinary 4K video editing, a MacBook or Mac mini is likely to be far more cost-effective and gives you most of the everyday macOS experience.
